Ellembelle District Assembly Announces District-Wide Clean-Up Exercise for July 10-11

The Ellembelle District Assembly (EDA) has announced a two-day district-wide clean-up exercise as part of the Government of Ghana’s National General Cleaning Days initiative aimed at promoting environmental sanitation and safeguarding public health.

In a press release dated July 9, 2026, the Assembly said the exercise follows President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as National General Cleaning Days.

The exercise will be held across the district from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on both days and will involve residents, businesses, institutions, traditional authorities, religious organisations, youth groups and other stakeholders.

According to the Assembly, activities have been scheduled as follows:

  • Friday, July 10: Government and private institutions, market women and traders.
  • Saturday, July 11: All residents, shop owners and the general public.

The Assembly further announced that it will join residents of Salma on Saturday’s clean-up exercise due to recurring flooding in the community during the rainy season. The exercise is expected to focus on clearing choked drains and other flood-prone areas.

The District Assembly noted that the initiative seeks to improve sanitation standards, prevent the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases and encourage citizens to take responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings.

Residents have therefore been urged to clean their homes, drains, markets, schools, roadsides and other public places to ensure the success of the exercise.

The Assembly also appealed to Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, traditional leaders, security agencies, civil society organisations, faith-based organisations, schools and the media to actively participate and support the campaign.

The statement was signed by Mohammed Alhassan (CA, Esq.), District Coordinating Director, on behalf of the District Chief Executive.
