Following a raid by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat’s (NAIMOS) military team, a group of eleven Chinese illegal miners were taken into custody in Ellembelle.
The exercise which commenced on Thursday, June 19, saw the continuation of vigorous operations in the Western Region which have so far led to large crackdowns in Jomoro and Evalue Dwira districts of the Region.
Upon arrival, the task team discovered a group of Chinese miners who had been mining along the Ankobra River in the Ellembele district’s town of Akropong.
A number of logistics and equipment, including excavators, Changfans, and trucks used by the Chinese nationals, were seized by the task team after eleven of them were later apprehended.
The task group destroyed and burned other stores, equipment, and temporary constructions that could not be retrieved. Since then, the 11 Chinese galamseyers have been transported to Accra and turned over to Senior Inspector Jyampah of the Ghana Immigration Service’s operations department.
In the meantime, the NAIMOS task force is still steadfast and committed to its efforts to stop illegal mining, particularly in the nation’s forest reserves and waterways.
Additionally, Sector Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has reaffirmed his commitment to fighting the threat and eliminating galamsey.
