Philip Kwabena Agyemang, better known as Roman Fada, has been announced by the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) as its new presidential candidate for the December elections.
The declaration comes after the Electoral Commission ordered the GFP to choose a new candidate within ten days after Akua Donkor, the party’s founder and prior presidential candidate, passed away.
In an interview on Monday, November 4, 2024, Roman Fada, a well-known TV and radio personality with Accra-based Atinka FM, affirmed his candidature.
He clarified that in order to guarantee a seamless transition, his selection was the outcome of lengthy discussions with the party’s leadership.
He pointed out that his previous position as Akua Donkor’s running mate for the December elections had a significant impact on his candidacy, making him an obvious choice to carry on her legacy and vision for the GFP.
“It is true and we all know what happened a week ago today around 10 pm when Akua Donkor passed. God rest her soul. As you know, I was the running mate for the party’s 2024 presidential candidate ahead of the elections.
“She is no longer with us, so the party’s leadership deemed it right for me to replace Akua Donkor in the elections. So, if you heard, I am the new flagbearer for the Ghana Freedom Party,” he confirmed on Atinka FM’s morning drive.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the Party had already declared that it will formally reveal its new presidential candidate.
