An quick rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North seat has been ruled out by the Electoral Commission (EC), which has stated that results from three voting places that are still open can still be tallied.
The Ghana Police Service is still seeking guidance from the Attorney General’s Department regarding the best way to ensure security for the collation procedure, which has caused the process to be delayed.
A re-run is still a last resort, Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Corporate Affairs, clarified in response to questioning on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 19.
“So, for Ablekuma North, we have not reached the point where we will say we don’t have the results. When we try and we cannot get the results, that is when we will resort to the rerun. The rerun will be a last option,” he said.
Dr. Asare also revealed that during the 2024 general elections, the Electoral Commission spent GHS 2.4 million on parliamentary ballots for the Eastern and Western Regions and GHS 3.6 million on presidential ballot reprints.
