EC declares Prof Alidu Mahama Seidu as MP-elect for Tamale Central

Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been officially declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) as the representative for the Tamale Central seat in parliament.

This announcement comes after Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, the former MP, died tragically in an Ashanti Region helicopter crash while serving with the Ghanaian Armed Forces.

The Tamale Central constituency’s Returning Officer, Muniru Musah, claims that Prof. Seidu’s announcement as MP-elect complies with C.I. 127.

“I, Muniru Musah, the Returning Officer of the Electoral Commission for the Tamale Central constituency, working with CI 127, therefore declare Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu as the MP-elect for the Tamale Central constituency,” he announced.

Prof. Seidu was declared the MP-elect after the EC reopened nominations, which had closed two days prior. Saaka Ziblim, the Deputy Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, expressed confidence in Prof. Seidu’s ability to succeed in his role as the MP-elect.

Four other candidates had collected nomination forms to run for the Tamale Central seat, and three of them were successful. However, the PNC and LPG later withdrew from the race, leaving Prof. Seidu as the only candidate.

According to him, Prof. Seidu will be one of the best MPs the constituency has ever had.

“Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu will be one of the best MPs to be elected to represent the good people of the Tamale Central constituency and will continue with the legacy of our late MP, Murtala Mohammed.

“We believe in his capabilities, and I can assure you that by the end of the four years, he will be one of the best-performing MPs in Ghana,” he stated.
