East Legon accident: Court grants Salifu Amoako GH¢50k bail

The High Court in Accra has granted bail to Elrad Amoako’s parents, Bishop Salifu and Mouha Amoako, whose actions led to the crash at East Legon that killed two people.

Bail has also been granted to a third accused individual, Linda Bempah, who the prosecution claims works as a sales assistant at Lilo Stitch, which is owned by the suspect’s brother.

Police apprehended the suspect driver’s parents, Salifu and Mouha Amoako, on Tuesday and brought them before the court on Wednesday.

They are accused of allowing someone who does not have a licence to drive.

As per the prosecution’s case facts, the two acknowledged during questioning that they permitted their child, the case’s suspect, to drive to the gym and other locations.

The third accused, Linda Bempah, gave Elrad the keys to the suspect’s mother, Mouha Amoako, according to the prosecution’s testimony in court.

The accused’s lawyers asked the court to give them bail on Wednesday, arguing that they have fixed residences, are well-known in the community, are employed, and will be ready for trial.

The accused, they added, have no plans to interfere with investigations or commit another crime while out on bond.

The court was also requested to take into account the fact that the accused person was charged with a misdemeanour.

Despite not objecting to the bail application, the prosecution requested strict conditions.

The judge after considering the arguments, granted bail to the accused persons to the tune of GHc 50,000 each.
