In the approaching rerun elections in Ablekuma North, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has donated GH¢200,000 to help the party’s parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie.
19 polling places are included in the rerun, which comes after the Electoral Commission decided to scrap its original intention to compile results from three polling places that were under dispute.
Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie is still running and has stated confidence in her chances, claiming she already won the race by defeating the NDC’s candidate, even though she was unable to obtain a court injunction to stop the repeat.
Given the short notice provided by the EC, Dr. Adutwum’s team indicates that the donation is intended to bolster her candidacy.
As the seat has long been one of the NPP’s strongholds, the team believes the gesture is also meant to assist guarantee the party’s retention. In addition to confirming the donation, Dr. Adutwum’s team wished the candidate well going into the important election.
