As part of initiatives to improve Ghana’s railway infrastructure and ease the flow of goods, Deputy Minister-Designate for Transport Dorcas Affo-Toffey proposed the construction of a railway line connecting Jomoro in the Western Region to Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking to the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday, July 25, Madam Affo-Toffey pledged to revitalize the railway industry and increase its appeal to investors.
“One of the things when I’m given the nod is I will work with my sector minister [Joseph Bukari Nikpe] to open it up for private investment, or investors to come on board to see how we can revamp the sector to make it viable to help us as a country,” she stated.
When asked whether she supports the idea of a Jomoro-Tema rail connection, she responded in the affirmative.
“Yes, Mr Chairman, I will because it will help. Yes, I will,” she said.
Madam Affo-Toffey also gave the committee her word that, if confirmed, she would make a significant contribution to the growth of Ghana’s railway and transportation industries.
