Dome-Kwabenya: NPP blames Adwoa Safo for party’s 2024 parliamentary defeat

The Dome-Kwabenya Constituency’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) leaders have charged former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo with masterminding the party’s loss in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

They said that Adwoa Safo conspired with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is in power, to undermine the chances of Ambassador Aaron Mike Oquaye Junior, the candidate of the NPP.

Robert Osei Bonsu, the chairman of the Dome-Kwabenya NPP Constituency, stated during a news conference that Adwoa Safo’s alleged resource theft and inability to assist the party were important factors in the NPP’s defeat and voter apathy.

“Adwoa Safo was absent from all campaign activities before and after losing the NPP primaries in 2024. She redirected NPP campaign resources to support the NDC candidate, neglected her parliamentary responsibilities, missed crucial votes such as the E-Levy bill, travelled to the U.S. without notice, and failed to attend assembly meetings. Efforts by the Chief of Staff and other senior figures to reconcile her with the party’s candidate were ignored,” he stated.

The NPP officials denied claims made by a youth organization that they were responsible for the party’s defeat, stating that they successfully led the constituency without Adwoa Safo.

The Dome-Kwabenya NPP leadership reiterated their resolve to reestablish the party in the area and put plans on place to win back the seat in subsequent elections.
