Concern Youth of Nzema Petition President Mahama Over Stalled Petroleum Hub

The Concern Youth of Nzema have submitted a formal petition to President John Dramani Mahama, voicing profound concern over the prolonged non-operational status of the Petroleum Hub project, an initiative widely regarded as a strategic pillar for industrial growth and socio-economic transformation in the Nzema area.

In the petition, the youth lament what they describe as an unsettling delay that has dimmed the initial promise of the project. They argue that the continued dormancy of the Petroleum Hub has already come at a high cost, particularly for young people, many of whom anticipated sustainable employment opportunities from its commencement. The delay, they note, has not only dashed these expectations but has also deepened unemployment and economic uncertainty within the host communities.

Beyond job losses, the group warns that the lack of visible progress has weakened investor confidence in the project, creating doubts among potential partners and financiers.

This erosion of confidence, they contend, has contributed to slow economic growth in the affected communities, stalling auxiliary businesses and denying the local economy the ripple effects that were expected to accompany the Hub’s operations.

The Concern Youth further highlight the growing uncertainty among stakeholders, attributing it to the absence of clear and consistent communication from authorities. According to them, the information vacuum has bred speculation and public anxiety, undermining trust in the project’s long-term viability.

In their appeal to the Office of the President, the youth are respectfully requesting decisive clarity and accountability. They are calling for a detailed explanation of the factors responsible for the Petroleum Hub’s non-operational status, alongside an update on the current stage of the project and measures undertaken so far.

Additionally, the petition urges government to publish a realistic timeline for the commencement of operations, emphasizing that defined milestones are crucial to restoring confidence among investors and the general public. The youth also stress the need for transparency and regular public briefings, insisting that sustained communication is essential to keeping citizens informed and engaged.

The petition reflects a broader demand for responsive leadership and inclusive development, with the Concern Youth of Nzema reiterating that the Petroleum Hub symbolizes opportunity, hope, and economic renewal for the region.

As the petition reaches the Presidency, expectations remain high that a prompt and comprehensive response will chart a clear path forward and reaffirm government’s commitment to the aspirations of the Nzema people.
