The Misinformation, Disinformation, and Hate Speech Bill will be introduced to Parliament in the upcoming weeks by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation.
If the bill is signed into law, it will stop the increasing number of cyberthreats; these include online fraud, frauds, abuse, and blackmail, which violate the rights of digital users.
This declaration was made by Sector Minister Samuel Nartey George during the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2025 media launch on September 3, 2025. He emphasized that violators of the proposed law would be subject to severe legal penalties.
He further revealed that efforts are underway to amend Section 38 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) to address emerging threats within Ghana’s digital ecosystem.
“Citizens deserve protection from fraud, abuse and blackmail. The Ministry is almost done with work on our Misinformation, Disinformation, Fake News and Hate Speech Bill. Don’t say you were not warned, we will come after you. We will prosecute you, we will jail you,” he said.
Mr. George also issued a warning to individuals in Ghana involved in online schemes targeting and defrauding foreign nationals, stating that the government is cracking down hard on such activities.
