VIDEO: Coach Adotey Confident Holy Stars Will End Goal Drought Against Chelsea

Basake Holy Stars head coach Augustine Evans Adotey says he is taking the positives from his team’s start to the Ghana Premier League season, but admits he is concerned about their inability to score goals in their first two matches.

Holy Stars have recorded two goalless draws so far, holding Techiman Eleven Wonders at home and Bechem United away. The results leave the team unbeaten after two games, with their defense earning praise for keeping consecutive clean sheets.

Adotey, however, emphasized that the inability to score goals remains a major worry that his technical team has been working on in training.

Speaking ahead of their tough away fixture against Berekum Chelsea on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Golden City Park, the experienced tactician noted that his players have been focusing on their finishing and creativity in the final third. He believes the work put in during training sessions will help his side break their goal drought. “We have not conceded, which is good, but we must now put the ball into the back of the net. That is what we are working towards,” he said.

The former Medeama SC gaffer also assessed the strength of their upcoming opponents, Berekum Chelsea, who have lost their opening two games against giants Asante Kotoko and newly promoted Swedru All Blacks. Despite Chelsea’s poor start, he warned that they remain a dangerous side, particularly at home, where they are eager to win back support from their fans. “Chelsea are a very good team. They have lost twice, and they will not want to lose again at home. But we are preparing to go there, claim at least a point, and if possible take all three points,” he added.

The coach underlined the competitive nature of the Ghana Premier League, stressing that every team is motivated to protect their home ground. He admitted that Sunday’s encounter will be another big test for his side but insisted that Holy Stars are determined to show resilience and ambition. “All clubs want to win in front of their supporters, but we will not go to Berekum to sit back. We will fight, and we will look for goals. The boys are hungry, and I believe we can get a good result,” he concluded.

As Holy Stars continue their maiden Premier League campaign, fans will be eager to see if Adotey’s men can not only maintain their defensive solidity but also open their scoring account against a wounded Chelsea side. The clash at Golden City Park promises to be a tight battle, with both clubs desperate for a first win of the season.
