Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club recorded a historic win in their second group game in the CAF Champions League.

The Tarkwa-based side came from behind to take all three points against Algerian side CR Belouizdad at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday with the game ending 2-1.

The Ghanaians won thanks to a stoppage-time goal from defender Kamaradini Mamudu in Kumasi.

Medeama had the first shot on goal when defender Mamudu’s header from a corner kick struck the post.

Despite dominating the contest, the Algerians scored the opener after Ishak Talal Boussouf was fouled inside the penalty area.

In the 39th minute, midfielder Abdelraouf Benguit stepped up to convert the penalty kick, giving Belouizdad the lead.

On the stroke of half-time, a free-kick from Mamudu took a deflection from Daniel Lomotey and beat goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz to draw Medeama level.

The Yellow and Mauves came close to taking the lead in the 85th minute, but Guendouz stopped Derrick Fordjour’s close-range shot.

Mamudu headed home a cross from Kwadwo Amoako to give Medeama the victory.

In their next game, the Yellow and Mauves will host Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday.
