BREAKING: Speaker Alban Bagbin Elected Chair of IPU Africa Group

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has been elected Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Africa Group at the ongoing 151st IPU Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

The election marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s parliamentary diplomacy, as Speaker Bagbin takes on the responsibility of leading 52 African national parliaments under the IPU framework.

As Chair, Bagbin is expected to spearhead efforts to amplify Africa’s collective voice on the global stage, advance the continent’s democratic values, and strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation across member states.

The IPU, founded in 1889, serves as the global organization of national parliaments, fostering dialogue, peace, and development through legislative collaboration.

Speaker Bagbin’s election has been widely hailed as a testament to his experience, leadership, and dedication to parliamentary governance both in Ghana and across Africa.
