The Trade Union Congress (TUC)-Ghana’s Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) has vowed to go on an indefinite strike by September 20.
TEWU announced in a statement that it will be joining the Federation of Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) and the Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UOG).
TEWU claims that the action is a protest over unsolved concerns pertaining to their terms of service.
The Ministry of Finance issued a clearance letter on August 2, 2024, but the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) failed to implement the agreed and approved Vehicle Maintenance and Off-Campus allowances, according to TEWU and other entities.
“The unfulfilled promise by Government to recalculate and pay members Tier Two interest that has accrued from the delayed payment of the Tier Two deductions to our Scheme from January, 2010-2016.
“Failure on the part of government to regularly remit our Tier Two deductions to our Scheme for our Fund Managers to effectively manage and guarantee enhanced pensions. Currently, the government is owing our Tier Two deductions from January, 2024 to date (8 months) even though, such deductions were made from our hard–earned salaries,” the statement noted.
