A final-year student at the Ashanti region’s Bantama neighbourhood, Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), was fatally stabbed after being accused of stealing.
The student, who was reportedly in his late twenties, was killed according to eyewitnesses, after an elderly woman accused him of stealing her purse and informed her 30-year-old boyfriend.
The two guys got into a fight as a result of the deceased disputing the accusations and threatening to kill the other.
It is said that on Sunday, September 1, 2024, the events leading up to the student’s death—known as “Gye Nyame” in the community—took place.
The two got into a fight on Tuesday, September 3, which resulted in a stabbing to the head, after fighting for several days.
The student was taken to the Suntreso Government Hospital by ambulance, but he passed away there.
Leaders from the community made fruitless attempts to break up the fight before the fatal tragedy.
Since then, the suspect has been detained by the police and is anticipated to undergo court processing.
