Berekum Chelsea head coach, Samuel Boadu, has expressed disappointment following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Hearts of Oak in their Ghana Premier League Week 6 encounter on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking after the match, Boadu lamented his side’s inability to make the most of their opportunities in the first half despite dominating play.
“We created numerous scoring chances in the first half but were unable to convert them,” he said. “That really made things difficult for us later in the game.”
The Bibiries’ situation worsened in the 80th minute when goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi was sent off for handling the ball outside his area. With all substitutions already made, center-back Michael Awuah Mensah had to step in as an emergency goalkeeper.
“We had no option after the red card of Ofori Antwi than to stay with a makeshift goalkeeper, Michael Awuah Mensah,” Boadu explained. “It’s unfortunate, but the players gave their best under the circumstances.”
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Berekum Chelsea fought hard but conceded twice, first through Hamza Issa in the 62nd minute and then a late goal from Mawuli Wayo in stoppage time.
Boadu, however, remained optimistic, stressing that his team would bounce back stronger in the next fixture.
“We’ll regroup, correct our mistakes, and return better prepared. The season is still young,” he assured.
The defeat leaves Berekum Chelsea looking to rediscover form when they return to action next weekend against Gold Stars in Bibiani.
