Basake Holy Stars Open GPL Campaign with Narrow Win Over Swedru All Blacks

Basake Holy Stars began their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign on a winning note after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Sports Arena in Ampain on Sunday.

The hosts had to remain patient before Francis Oteng produced the decisive moment in the 80th minute, handing Coach Abdulai Gazale’s side a valuable three points on the opening weekend.

The encounter was characterised by tactical discipline and defensive organisation, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut opportunities during a cagey first half.

Basake Holy Stars gradually assumed greater control after the break, increasing the pressure as they searched for the breakthrough.

Their persistence eventually paid off with ten minutes of regulation time remaining when Oteng found the back of the net with a composed finish to break the deadlock and send the home supporters into celebration.

Swedru All Blacks pushed forward in search of an equaliser but the Ampain-based outfit held firm defensively to preserve their slender advantage until the final whistle.

The victory represents an encouraging start for Gazale and his charges as they embark on another demanding Premier League campaign.

The defeat comes as a disappointment for the Ozii lads after their disciplined defensive display kept the hosts at bay for much of the afternoon. They will now look to bounce back in their next league fixture.

Meanwhile, The Coconut Grove Side will hope to build on the winning impetus from their opening-day triumph as they seek to make a strong statement in the new campaign.
