PRESS BRIEFING STATEMENT
Save Nzema’s Only Premier League Pride-Keep Our Team Home!
Fellow Citizens of Nzemaland, Members of the Press, Football lovers and Distinguished Stakeholders, Today I speak to you not just as a football supporter but as a voice for the pride, unity and progress of our land. Our beloved Premier League team, the only one currently representing Nzemaland stands at a crossroads. This is the team that rose from the dusty fields of Division II to the grand stage of the Ghana Premier League. It is a team built in perseverance, sweat and determination led by a visionary, Mr. Simon Ehomah, the sole owner and CEO whose personal sacrifices have brought us to this historic moment.
From our humble beginnings to competing on Ghana’s biggest football platform, the team has become more than just a sports club. It is a source of pride, economic activity and hope for the Youth of Nzema. Every home match player here brings revenue to our traders, fills our hotels, feeds our market women, and inspires young boys and girls to dream beyond the boarders of this district. The positive ripple effect on our local economy and morale cannot be overstated.
Yet, in the midst of this journey, we are confronted with a deeply troubling development, Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III (Paramount Chief and President of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council) has filed a motion for an interlocutory injunction against the team coupled with a writ of summons against the CEO of the club. As it stands now, we have no choice but to play our home matches away from Nzemaland. Samartex FC has graciously granted us permission to use their park in Samreboi for our home matches but this step no matter how generous, deprives us of our heritage as Nzemas.
Let us not forget: in recent years, there was another Club, Karela United which also carried the banner of Nzemaland in the Premier League. After the unfortunate demise of the CEO, the late Senator David Brigidi, affectionately known as Senator Saya (may his soul rest in perfect Peace), the team was beset with challenges, both internal and external that intimately led to its sale to the Northern part of the country. That sale deprived Nzemaland of a prestigious position in Ghanaian football. Are we going to stand aloof and unconcerned until our current, too, is left with no choice but to consider selling this team? We can and must do better as Nzemas, we must speak with one united voice.
Let me be clear: this move by Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III is underserving ill-timed and detrimental to the very progress we are striving to achieve. Football is not just a game: it is a unifying force, a developmental tool, and a shinning light in communities often overlooked. To strip us of this asset is to dim that light.
We respect our traditions, our culture, and our leaders. But leadership must protect, not deprive: it must unite, not divide. At a time when we should be rallying behind our only Premier League team, we are instead facing internal obstacles that threaten to erase years of hard work.
Today, I call on all stakeholders: the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Local Government Authorities, Business Leaders, Community Elders, and Every Son and Daughter of Nzemaland to rise and defend this team.
And I say this directly to the Companies operating on our land, Atuabo Gas, Adamus Resources Limited, ENI Gas, and others: We need your urgent support. Let us work together to renovate our home ground, the Crosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park, so that our matches can continue to be played right here, where they belong.
The team belongs to Nzemaland, its victories are our victories: its struggles are our struggles, and we will not allow this proud symbol of our identity to be taken away. Let us come together, speak with one voice, and ensure that our home matches remain in the heart of Nzema for our pride, our economy, and our future
Thank you.
