Basake Holy Stars Appoint Veteran Coach Johnson Smith to Strengthen Technical Team

Ghana Premier League side Basake Holy Stars Football Club have reinforced their technical setup with the appointment of seasoned Ghanaian tactician, Johnson Smith, in a strategic move aimed at revitalising the club’s campaign.

The club officially confirmed the former Asante Kotoko coach’s appointment in a statement on their Facebook page on Tuesday, November 25.

“Basake Holy Stars warmly welcomes Johnson Smith to our technical team. His expertise and experience will be an asset to our club. We look forward to achieving more together,” the club stated.

Smith joins Basake Holy Stars after parting ways with fellow Premier League side Nations FC, bringing with him over a decade of coaching experience across both top-flight and lower-division Ghanaian clubs.

Renowned for his tactical acumen, calm leadership, and ability to develop players, Smith is highly respected across Ghanaian football circles. He also currently serves as one of the assistant coaches for the Black Satellites (Ghana U-20) under newly appointed head coach Maxwell Konadu, further highlighting his expertise in nurturing emerging talents.

At Basake Holy Stars, Smith is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the team’s tactical organisation, working alongside the coaching staff to improve results and guide the club out of the relegation zone. He will collaborate closely with Head Coach Augustine Evans Adotey and Coach Rashad Musah, forming a strong, experience-driven technical unit.

He returns to Nzema, revisiting a region where he achieved historic success with Karela United. In 2017, he masterminded Karela United’s promotion to the Ghana Premier League, and also in the truncated 2018 season, he guided the team to the 2019 Normalisation Committee (NC) Special Competition final, where they narrowly lost on penalties to Asante Kotoko after a 1-1 draw.

His return rekindles hopes among fans of replicating past achievements, as Smith brings with him the tactical expertise, leadership, and experience that have defined his decade-long coaching career in Ghanaian football.
