Basake Holy Stars agree deal with veteran tactician Kobina Amissah

Ghana Premier League side Basake Holy Stars have reached an agreement with experienced Ghanaian coach Kobina Amissah to become the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 53-year-old is poised to take charge of the Nzema-based outfit following the departure of Johnson Smith, who recently joined Nations FC. An official announcement from the club is expected in the coming days.

Amissah returns to the Ghana Premier League with a wealth of experience, having enjoyed coaching spells with several clubs, including Nzema Kotoko, Sekondi Hasaacas, Berekum Chelsea, Elmina Sharks, Bibiani Gold Stars, FC Samartex 1996, Mighty Royals, Home Stars FC, Bechem United, Nsoatreman FC and Nations FC.

Widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most accomplished domestic coaches, Amissah holds the unique distinction of being the only manager in the country’s football history to guide four different clubs from the Access Bank Division One League to the Ghana Premier League, cementing his status as one of the nation’s finest specialists.

His extensive experience, tactical acumen and proven ability to assemble competitive squads are expected to play a key role as Basake Holy Stars seek to strengthen their position in the Ghana Premier League.

The Western Region club have shown steady progress since gaining promotion to the top flight and are determined to build on that foundation during the 2026/27 campaign. The anticipated appointment of Amissah underlines the club’s ambition to compete consistently with the country’s established top-flight sides.

Should the move be officially confirmed, Amissah will be entrusted with leading the next chapter of Basake Holy Stars’ development as they target another impressive campaign in the Ghana Premier League.

An official confirmation is expected after the completion of the remaining contractual formalities.
