Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a special aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for the Volta Region’s ballot paper deficit. She characterized the circumstance as a glaring illustration of the ineptitude of the EC.
The EC recognized deficits in presidential and parliamentary vote papers in Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West, among other important constituencies, on Thursday, November 28.
Many people are worried about the Commission’s capacity to guarantee a seamless election process in light of this discovery.
Speaking to JoyNews at the Legal Green Forum for law students and lawyers, Joyce Bawah Mogtari criticized the EC for failing to meet its mandate.
“This is not the first time we’ve pointed out that the Electoral Commission is not up to the task,” she said. “They are not acting like an independent body. We’ve always suspected this because so many partisans are parading as commissioners. I’m happy these mistakes have been noticed, as they highlight the EC’s incompetence.”
She also claimed that there were structural problems with the electoral authority, raising the possibility that the shortages were intentional.
“Even at the printing houses, we are being told they are printing more than they need. The beauty of this is that we are now very vigilant. Every step of the way, we’ve worked hard to expose the EC’s biases and incompetence,” she stated.
The NDC’s dedication to preserving the election’s integrity was emphasized by the spokesperson.
“This is an election the NDC is supposed to win. Ghanaians are yearning for change, and we will ensure that every ballot is protected. Our polling agents have been accurately trained, and we are poised for victory,” she assured.
