Awulae Agyefi Kwame II, the Paramount Chief of the Nsein Traditional Area in Ghana’s Western Region, has sent ripples across his jurisdiction, including Lower Axim, with a firm warning to all chiefs and sub-chiefs.
In a firm pronouncement, the Paramount chief stated that any traditional leader found participating in illegal mining activities will face public exposure and legal consequences. “Whoever is involved in unlawful mining, I will name you, shame you, and prosecute you,” he warned emphatically.
Illegal mining, which has long posed a threat to the environment and local livelihoods in the Western Region, now faces a formidable adversary in the Paramount Chief. By holding even chiefs accountable, Awulae Agyefi Kwame II reinforces that leadership carries both privilege and responsibility.
