Ashanti Region: Armed Robbers jailed 345 years.

Five armed robbers have been found guilty of robbery, conspiring to commit robbery, providing ammunition to a criminal organisation, and dishonestly receiving property.

The five prisoners were reportedly apprehended in 2023 in relation to a slew of robberies and carjackings that occurred in the Ashanti Region.

Jeffrey Dwomoh, Kwabena Kyei Barfour, Clifford Opoku, Prince Opuni, and Henry Kusi Marfo are the prisoners.

William Ansah and Richard Dogbatsey are two more suspects.

Kwabena Kyei Barfour was found guilty of dishonestly receiving and given a sentence of 105 years in hard labour. Jeffrey Dwomoh and Clifford Opoku were found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, respectively, and were each sentenced to 120 years in hard labour.

Prince Opuni was also found guilty by the court of careless and reckless driving, and he was given a 350 penalty unit fine or, in the event that he didn’t pay the money, a 10-month hard labour sentence. In addition, he was fined five thousand Ghanaian cedis (GH¢ 5,000.00) for vandalising a police car. Henry Kusi Marfo was found guilty of providing ammunition to aid in the heist and was given a punishment that included a fine of 1,050 penalty units or, in the event that he did not comply, a correctional sentence of 15 months of hard labour. Since then, he has given the court’s fine.

Two of the accused persons, Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah were acquitted of the charge of abetment of robbery.
