A gold-digging pit collapsed, resulting in the verified deaths of five illegal miners.

On April 1, the sad event took place at an illegal mining location in Mpasatia, Atwima Mponua District, Ashanti Region.
Two of the victims have been recovered and pronounced dead at the Afari Hospital, according to local resident Nana Nkansah.
Three more were later recovered, and at the scene of the accident, they were all pronounced dead. The five miners who perished in the April 1, 2025, incident have been placed to the morgue and are awaiting family members to identify them.
