Asante Kotoko have parted ways with head coach Eric Tinkler with immediate effect following their 2-0 home defeat to Aduana FC in the Ghana Premier League.

The decision was reached on Monday, September 28, 2026, after the Porcupine Warriors suffered defeat at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Stephen Amankona and Seidu Saana were on target for Aduana FC as the Dormaa-based side secured all three points against the Kumasi giants in matchweek 4 of the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Tinkler subsequently requested to be released from his contract for personal reasons, with the Asante Kotoko Board of Directors agreeing to his request.

According to a statement issued by the club, both parties had earlier engaged in discussions in an attempt to prevent the separation, but the club eventually respected the coach’s decision.

“Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has agreed to the request of its Head Coach, Mr. Eric Tinkler, to be released from his contract with the Club effective immediately for personal reasons,” the club stated.

The Porcupine Warriors expressed gratitude to Tinkler for his professionalism and commitment during his relatively short stint at the club and wished him well in his future endeavours.

The club further indicated that its technical team will continue to pursue its sporting objectives under the leadership of Director of Football Stanley Purl Menzo.

The 56-year-old former South African midfielder arrived at Asante Kotoko with considerable experience from the South African football scene.

Before his spell with the Porcupine Warriors, Tinkler coached several prominent clubs, including Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Chippa United, Maritzburg United and Sekhukhune United.

His departure brings an early end to his spell in Kumasi, with Asante Kotoko now set to navigate another change in the club’s technical setup.
