Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the Presidency Mustapha Gbande has demanded the arrest of three people he says are accountable for the loss of over 1,300 containers at Tema Port that belonged to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Mustapha Gbande, who spoke on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, March 31, called for the immediate arrest of former ECG CEO Samuel Dubik Mahama, former ECG Board Chairman Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and former Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
Critical electrical equipment and materials meant for national power distribution were lost in the scandal, which has rocked the nation.
Reports state that the lost containers disappeared under dubious circumstances after being delivered into Ghana to support ECG operations.
A report that exposed procurement irregularities and dubious activities within ECG was the first to bring attention to the problem.
Additionally, it was claimed that some ECG executives and government representatives knew the containers were being handled improperly but did nothing about it.
In his unreserved call for justice, Mustapha Gbande declared that the three people ought to be held responsible for their participation in the incident.
“Afenyo-Markin, the chairman of the board, now wants to avoid accountability, hence it is best for the nation that he be taken into prison right soon.
We must act now to stop these cases of corruption, which is why I am advocating for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Mahama, and Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
