AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine unveils GH¢3.7m education office complex in Axim

AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has commissioned a state-of-the-art, fully furnished office complex for the Nzema East Municipal Education Office in Axim, replacing the former facility declared structurally unsafe by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

Old District Education Office

The GH¢3.7 million edifice represents a substantial investment in educational administration, providing a safer, more functional and professionally equipped working environment for officials responsible for coordinating education delivery across the municipality.

The project was executed following a request by the Paramount Chief of the Lower Axim Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Dr Awulae Attibrukusu III, whose intervention helped facilitate the Mine’s support for the initiative.

The development underscores AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine’s sustained commitment to educational advancement and the provision of essential infrastructure within its host communities.

At the official handover ceremony, traditional authorities, government officials, representatives of the Ghana Education Service and community members toured the facility, expressing commendation for the Mine’s investment in strengthening the municipality’s educational infrastructure.

The new complex addresses an urgent infrastructural deficiency occasioned by the deteriorating condition of the previous office, which had been deemed structurally unsafe by NADMO. Its replacement is expected to provide education officials with a more secure and conducive environment for discharging their administrative responsibilities.

The commissioning forms part of Iduapriem Mine’s broader Education and Youth Development Programme, under which approximately GH¢17.2 million was invested in 2025 to broaden educational opportunities and enhance infrastructure across beneficiary communities.

The investment reflects the Mine’s recognition of education as a critical catalyst for human capital development, socioeconomic transformation and the creation of sustainable opportunities for future generations.

Beyond the construction of a modern administrative facility, the initiative exemplifies the value of strategic collaboration between corporate institutions, traditional authorities and public-sector agencies in addressing pressing community needs.

In recognition of the Mine’s contribution, the Axim community, led by His Royal Majesty Dr Awulae Attibrukusu III, alongside the Nzema East Municipal Education Office, presented a citation of appreciation to the Managing Director and employees of Iduapriem Mine.

The honouring gesture acknowledged the Mine’s intervention and its commitment to supporting educational development in the area.

The commissioning of the GH¢3.7 million facility constitutes a practical response to an essential infrastructure need in Axim, while reinforcing the importance of corporate social investment in strengthening public institutions and improving service delivery.

Through its Education and Youth Development Programme, Iduapriem Mine continues to contribute to initiatives aimed at expanding educational access and improving the infrastructure underpinning learning and administration in its host communities.
