The Municipal Chief Executive for Wassa Amenfi East in the Western Region, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his prompt release of common funds to district assemblies across the country.
Speaking to journalists at the municipal assembly, Hon. Ebbah expressed gratitude for President Mahama’s commitment to supporting local governance and development.
The timely release of funds, Hon. Ebbah noted that it will enable the assembly to implement crucial projects and programs benefiting the people of Amenfi East.
He contrasted the current government’s efforts with the previous administration, which he alleged had starved districts of development funds.
The MCE revealed that this year, the government has released two quarters of the fund for projects.
Following the release, Hon. Ebbah assured that the municipality will utilize the funds for social amenities like school infrastructure, water, CHPS compounds, mechanized boreholes, and other vital projects.
He announced plans to lead the assembly in cutting sod for about 10 borehole projects in the coming months.
On mining, Hon. Nana Ebbah revealed the introduction of a cooperative mining initiative aimed at promoting regulated and responsible mining practices.
This initiative, he explained, would enable residents to form groups or associations, secure valid licenses, and operate legally while being monitored and regulated.
Hon. Ebbah dismissed claims that the National Democratic Congress government intends to collapse the mining sector.
The MCE emphasized President Mahama’s commitment to sustainable mining practices that protect the environment, water bodies, and forest reserves.
According to the MCE, the corporation mining scheme has been introduced in some districts already, noting that his municipality will soon benefit the same government initiative.
