Businessman Richard Jakpa, who calls Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame his “sworn enemy,” has disclosed the reasons behind his deep-seated resentment.
In the ambulance procurement trial, Jakpa, the third defendant, described a secret meeting he had with the Attorney-General with the goal of getting out of the prosecution.
Nevertheless, in spite of the understanding, he was added to the list of defendants and had to provide a defence.
Jakpa asserted under cross-examination by Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), that he had given the Attorney-General papers that were later utilized to support the prosecution’s case.
But the DPP disputed his assertions, saying that the prosecution had already provided the relevant documents five months prior to Jakpa’s meeting with the A-G.
Jakpa also related how Godfred Yeboah Dame had promised something at his cousin Justice Yonny Kulendi’s house, but it had never been fulfilled.
“And I informed the two of them that A-G is a lawyer who is taking unfair advantage of my legal knowledge and abilities to rob me of my freedom. I will use my underground connections to deal with him and pay him back.” I told them to use their legal expertise, and I would use my own legal expertise to survive on the streets.
“So, regardless of whether I’m found guilty or not, I’m worried that there will be a conflict between us. He has hurt me, damaged my reputation, and taken away all I have done for decades because he is trying to put me in jail and take away my freedom as a citizen. Because of the judge overseeing the trial, an acquittal will not be able to make up for this.
“He and my cousin tried to calm me down, but the battle line had already been drawn.” Jakpa informed the judge
