The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has met with Black Stars coach Chris Hugton over the team’s under performance in the just started AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.
The meeting follows Black Stars defeat against Cape Verde of 2-1 which has sparked criticism of Hugton’s controversial lineup and questionable tactics.
A fan who reportedly confronted Hugton over the defeat in a heated exchange has been set free according to the GFA’s spokesperson.
The associations met with the under-fire coach and expressed its support for him.
“We have had a meeting with the coach and gave him 100% assurance that we are solidly behind him,” Mr. Asante-Twum told BBC Sport.
“We think it is possible for the team to win the two remaining matches to make it to the next round” He added.
Chris Hugton faces immerse pressure to deliver a victory and silence his doubters ahead of their next match with Egypt.
Meanwhile, the team’s poor performance so far has generated heated questions about Hugton’s ability to lead the Black Stars to win the AFCON 2023.
To secure greater wins in the upcoming matches, Hugton must devise strategies to overcome Egypt, a team also facing scrutiny after their unexpected draw against Mozambique.
