Eight prisoners were released from police custody after an unidentified youngster in the Bono Region’s Wenchi Municipality attacked Municipal Police Commander DSP Nana Boakye Yiadom, seriously injuring him.
Additionally, the mob caused serious property damage by vandalizing the police station.
The event happened Tuesday morning after DSP Yiadom went to the Tohaba area, a suburb of Wenchi, to apprehend a suspect, according to an unnamed source within the Wenchi police.
The commander allegedly arrested the suspect’s pregnant wife and took her to the police station after discovering the culprit was missing.
The young person, infuriated by the arrest, broke into the police station to rescue the woman. They damaged a flat-screen TV, refrigerator, computer equipment, sliding doors, the commander’s car, and the charge office during the assault.
Eight prisoners were released when the young person burst into the cells amid the confusion.
At the moment, DSP Yiadom is being treated at the Bono Regional Teaching Hospital.
