Joseph Asare Bediako, the head coach of Young Apostles, has been subject to disciplinary action by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for his contentious post-match remarks over officiating his team’s recent Ghana Premier League match against Legon Cities FC.
The GFA claims that coach Asare’s remarks following Young Apostles’ 2-0 defeat brought the game into disgrace, in violation of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.
The accusation is related to Asare’s post-match comments, where he claimed that his players were demoralized by some of the referees’ choices and expressed his displeasure with them.
Monday night’s match saw Legon Cities defeat Young Apostles 2-0, a result that seems to have led Asare to publicly attack the refereeing.
According to the GFA, “It is alleged that his post-match commentary on the match officials of the game constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”
The coach’s formal response to the charges is now due on Friday, November 8.
The GFA’s dedication to upholding match officials’ dignity and safeguarding Ghanaian football’s integrity is demonstrated by this case.
Although coaches and athletes are free to express themselves, the association’s regulations mandate that their remarks stay within appropriate bounds.
