Basake Holy Stars Football Club earned the bragging rights as they defeated their former Neighbours Karela United Football Club 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park on matchday 6 of the Ghana Premier League.

The win was the first chalked by Basake Holy at home in their maiden season in the Ghanaian top-flight league.

A stunning second-half strike from Prince Opoku was enough to give the “Unbeatable team” all the three points.

Holy Stars made their intentions clear right from the blast of the referee’s first whistle. Prince Tweneboa should have given the host the lead, but wasted time on the ball and was denied from hitting the back of the net.

Prince Opoku then scored a sweet header only to be ruled out by the Assistant two.

The Passioners after recess showed much urgency and nearly scored the opener only to be twarted by their former goalkeeper, Dubi Tayi Kassi in the early exchanges.

Against the run of play, Ibrahim Giyasu nearly scored for Karela United after he was put through with only the netminder to beat, but Dubi Tayi once again denied the visitors with a power save.

Karela United continued their pursuit for a goal, but the Holy Stars defence were resolute.

Basake Holy Stars came into the game again and showcased some entertaining football to the delight of their fans and had a penalty call ruled out by the Assistant one.

In the 80th minute, Basake Holy Stars took the deserved lead through Prince Opoku. He was set up by Prince Tweneboa as his diving-header zoomed into the net.

Basake Holy Stars will travel to Nsoatreman whiles Karela United will host Kpando Heart of Lions in Week 7 of the 2024/25 Campaign.
