Galamsey: We pray God touches the hearts of people – Catholic Bishop

Father Nicolas Azzineh, the National President for Peace, Justice, and Creation of the Catholic Church in Ghana, has expressed his prayer that God will transform the hearts of those who are participating in galamsey.

Father Azzineh made the remark on Friday during a prayer walk against danger organised by the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra.

The “Service of Preparation” at the Holy Spirit Cathedral served as an introduction to the walk, which drew together Catholic worshippers and environmental activists.

In an interview with TV3, based in Accra, the Catholic priest voiced concern about the destruction that galamsey has created in some areas of the nation.

He made a point of saying that since God made the environment for man to safeguard, he could not understand why some people wanted to destroy it instead.

“It is our hope that God will listen to our prayers, that he will touch the hearts of people so that they will change their way of looking at ecology or nature. Nature is created for us to take care of.

“We recognise our moral obligation to protect God’s creation and promote integral human development, not only in words but also in action. As the Latinists say, facta non-verbal,” he said.
