National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama has urged former DKM Microfinance clients to demand their money back from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The former president claims that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently profiting on the investment made by unhappy clients.

Speaking at Nkoranza North on his Bono East Regional tour, where the now-defunct company was based, Mr. Mahama asserted that the owner of DKM was a significant contributor to Bawumia’s campaign financing.

“In 2016, during my presidency, the NPP MPs and party leadership falsely accused my wife Lordina and me of being associated with the leader of DKM microfinance, which defrauded investors of their money. Recently, Vice President Bawumia was seen with the same individual funding his campaign as a crony of the NPP.

“I urge you to remember that while lies may spread quickly, truth ultimately prevails. When Bawumia visits, demand answers from him about his involvement and the fate of your investments,” he stated.

The politics behind DKM ownership came to light prior to the 2016 elections, and it was employed as a political weapon against John Mahama and his NDC.

This came about following DKM’s suspension by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) in 2015 due to violations of the Banking Act.

However, Mr. Mahama has flatly denied the allegations, characterizing them as a disinformation tactic directed at his family.

He brought up a widely shared image of the DKM owner campaigning beside Dr. Bawumia.

He claimed that since this shows that he, the owner of DKM, has been financially supporting Bawumia, Bawumia must assist clients in getting their money back.
