Dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, better known by his stage name Shatta Wale, has chosen not to take part in the official launch of several community mining initiatives in the Western Region’s Ellembelle District.
Concerns about surface mining in the district reportedly causing environmental harm to have prompted environmental civil society organizations, such as Arocha Ghana, to petition Shatta Wale to withdraw from the project.
Significant river and stream pollution was brought to light by environmental organizations, with an emphasis on the effects on bodies of water like Ankobra, Broma, Subile Norloa, and Amanzule.
They alerted Shatta Wale in their correspondence that he might be held accountable for the ongoing environmental damage in Ellembelle and urged him to think twice in order to preserve his reputation as a youth icon.
Shatta Wale has chosen not to attend the event, demonstrating his commitment to environmental responsibility and awareness in light of these worries.
In response, Shatta Wale received recognition from Arocha Ghana, who named him the “Green Revolution Hero of the Year” for his fearless defense of environmental preservation.
