The public has been reassured by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, that an inquiry is still underway to find out how Richard Ahiagbah, the communications director for the ruling New Patriotic Party, was able to cast a ballot in the 2020 election despite not having his name on the voter registration list.

Richard Ahiagbah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) director of communications, verified reports that he cast a ballot in the general elections of 2020 despite not having his name on the register.

This comes after Mr. Ahiagbah sought to register at a registration site in Ketu South, Volta Region, and was accused by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of committing a felony of double registration.

According to him, he went to the polling station to cast his vote but was informed by the EC officials that his name was not in the register.

In spite of this, he was still able to cast a ballot since an EC official had noted his identity number and other pertinent information at the bottom of the register.

Speaking to Parliament prior to the 2024 election, Mrs. Mensa said that the events are quite concerning and that awareness should be raised.

“He could vote in 2020 even though his name was not on the register. We are investigating the matter and guarantee that we will notify you of our results as soon as possible.

She added that in the approaching general elections, situations of this nature shouldn’t happen at any polling place.

“We will give you a little update on how that happened before the elections,” she promised.
