Akufo-Addo grants executive approval to establish Local Government and Development University.

Executive approval has been given by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to build the University of Local Government and Development in Akomadan, Ashanti Region.

The Secretary to the President, Ambassador Nana Asante Bediatuo, signed a letter dated July 1, 2024, which the President addressed to Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, stating that the University will be a specialised public degree-awarding, research, and professional training institution with a mandate of strategic national importance for local governance.

The Institute of Local Government Studies’ Akomadan Campus was the previous name of the university.

In order for the school to be granted executive permission and become an independent, fully-fledged university, the Minister of Local Government Decentralisation and Rural Development, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has played a crucial role in making sure that the institution satisfies these requirements.
