Today, July 4, the NPP’s National Executive Council (NEC) will convene to deliberate on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer, selecting his running mate for the general elections that will take place on December 7.
In order to explain why he thinks Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the minister of energy, is the best candidate for the vice presidential position, Dr. Bawumia is expected to present and defend his pick.
This process is in accordance with the party constitution, which stipulates that the nomination must be approved or rejected by the NEC, the second highest decision-making body.
Prior to taking on the role of Energy Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh held the position of Education Minister during the period in which the government’s flagship Free Senior High School programme was being implemented.
His selection is seen as a calculated attempt to use his experience and leadership to strengthen the party’s campaign.
According to a recent survey, Dr. Prempeh is the grassroots members of the party’s preferred candidate.
