The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has addressed accusations made by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who questioned her age-related eligibility for the position.

In the presidential contest, the 72-year-old academician is running alongside John Mahama, 65.

Speaking to a group of female media professionals in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assertively declared that she is proud of her age in response to remarks made by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, which many saw as an attempt to discredit her candidature by drawing attention away from her accomplishments and qualifications and onto her age.

She stressed that, should the NDC win the election, her years of expertise and insight would be priceless advantages for her role.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised how qualified she is to effectively contribute to the leadership of the nation due to her vast experience and knowledge.

Throughout her speech, Professor Opoku-Agyemang pushed the audience to acknowledge beyond age and appreciate the importance of experience and skill in leadership, stating that these attributes are critical to the advancement and development of the country.

“Let everybody understand that I’m very proud of every minute God has given me, and if he gives me more, I’ll be more grateful.

I don’t consider my age as a nuisance, I consider it as a blessing, so that is it.

“What else is there to say?

Is that all they could say?

Did they also say that I was corrupt?

Why couldn’t they say that I was insulting people?.”

“You see, a lot of these things we must see as unnecessary and unuseful distractions.

Is that all they can say?

I never said I was an angel but I don’t think I’ve killed anybody’s child.

“So I’m happy with myself, I’m proud of how far God has brought me and I believe God will take everybody much further,” she insisted.
