Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame has been urged by private attorney Martin Kpebu to retract his declaration that he will continue to lead the prosecution in the ambulance procurement trial.
Judge Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, who is presiding over the ambulance trial, recommended that Mr. Dame step down from the prosecution on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Judge Asare-Botwe rendered her decision on the appeal for a mistrial that was submitted by Richard Jakpa and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the former deputy finance minister.
But Mr. Dame has said that he will not relent in his efforts to lead the prosecution in the case against the Minority Leader and another person charged with financial loss to the state.
However, on Friday, June 7, 2024, Mr. Kpebu voiced his disdain of Mr. Dame’s choice to press forward with the prosecution against the judge’s guidance during an appearance on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem.
“For the AG to still go ahead to prosecute the matter after the judge’s advice means he has disregarded the judge and shown no respect. What happened was an injustice. You can’t disregard the judge. Stop right there, else you are disregarding the judge” he said.
Mr. Kpebu went on to say that the AG ought to have quit given his involvement in the purported tape.
