The Government of Ghana has sorrowfully confirmed that eight Ghanaian nationals have lost their lives following a recent terrorist assault in Titao, Burkina Faso.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 17, 2026, it was disclosed that seven members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association, who were engaged in legitimate trading activities, were initially killed during the February 14 jihadist attack. An eighth victim, who had been receiving treatment for severe injuries, has sadly succumbed.
President John Dramani Mahama has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a “mindless act of terror.”
The President further expressed Ghana’s unwavering solidarity with the Government and people of Burkina Faso, emphasizing the urgent need for strengthened regional cooperation to confront the growing menace of violent extremism across the sub-region.
Acting on the President’s directive, the Ghana Air Force has undertaken an air medical evacuation of the injured Ghanaian victims, who are expected to arrive in the country later today.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced enhanced travel advisory measures for Ghanaians intending to visit high-risk areas within the sub-region. Citizens whose travel is essential have been urged to first seek guidance from the Ministry or Ghana’s diplomatic missions.
