The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has announced that Fugu imported from Ghana for personal use is now exempt from all taxes and duties. The decision follows President John Dramani Mahama’s recent state visit to Zambia, highlighting the tangible benefits of strengthened diplomatic and trade relations.
Fugu, a beloved Ghanaian regalia, has seen rising popularity among Zambians and the Ghanaian diaspora in the country. With the removal of import duties, enthusiasts and small-scale traders can now enjoy and distribute the traditional attire more easily, promoting both cultural appreciation and entrepreneurial opportunities.
The ZRA stated that this duty-free policy aligns with regional trade facilitation objectives under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and reflects Zambia’s commitment to fostering seamless cultural and commercial exchange.
“This exemption is more than a trade decision; it is a gesture of friendship and collaboration between our nations,” a ZRA spokesperson remarked.
President Mahama’s visit, which focused on trade, investment, and regional cooperation, has already yielded a practical outcome for everyday citizens, making Ghanaian Fugu accessible on Zambian tables without financial barrier.
