Basake Holy Stars midfielder, Francis Oteng Gyetuah delivered a commanding performance to inspire his side to their first win of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, defeating defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars 2-0 at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Sports Arena in Ampain on Sunday.
The energetic playmaker was instrumental in midfield, controlling the tempo with class, vision, and determination. His outstanding display earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, highlighting his crucial role in Basake Holy Stars’ long-awaited victory.
After a cagey opening, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Prince Opoku converted from the penalty spot after Prince Tweneboah was fouled in the box. The momentum stayed with the home side as Tweneboah turned scorer five minutes later, curling home a stunning effort from the edge of the area to make it 2-0 before halftime.
Throughout the second half, Francis Oteng Gyetuah showcased his full range of abilities, intercepting play, distributing with precision, and orchestrating transitions that kept the champions on the back foot. His leadership and composure inspired confidence across the team as the Holy Stars held firm to secure all three points.
Speaking after the match, Gyetuah expressed his delight and praised his teammates for their commitment and teamwork.
“This victory means a lot to us. We’ve been working hard for this moment, and I’m proud of the entire team. The MVP is a bonus, but the three points are what truly matter,” he said.
The win marks a crucial turning point for Basake Holy Stars, who will now look to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures as they aim to climb up the league table.
