“No Point Winning If We Can’t Compete”: Kotoko’s Sarfo Duku Laments After Painful CAF Champions League Exit

Asante Kotoko’s Communications Manager, Lawyer Sarfo Duku, has expressed deep disappointment and frustration following the club’s early exit from the CAF Champions League, after suffering a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Wydad Athletic Club at the Stade Mohammed V in Morocco.

The Porcupine Warriors approached the second leg trailing 1-0 from the first encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium, but their hopes of overturning the deficit were crushed by the Moroccan giants, who dominated the game from start to finish.

Speaking to Kessben Sports, Lawyer Sarfo Duku did not hold back, questioning the rationale behind fighting for continental qualification when the club lacks the necessary support and structure to compete effectively on the African stage.

“We would just play the Ghana Premier League to entertain ourselves like that, because even if we should win the title and go to Africa, we can’t compete,”- Lawyer Sarfo Duku remarked.

His candid comments mirror the growing concerns among fans and football stakeholders who have consistently called for reforms and investment in Ghanaian clubs to help them reclaim their once-dominant status in African football.

Despite the disappointing exit, Duku expressed hope that the experience would serve as a wake-up call for both Kotoko’s management and the national football authorities to prioritize infrastructure, logistics, and player development ahead of future continental campaigns.

With the Porcupine Warriors now turning their focus back to the Ghana Premier League, supporters are eager to see the team regroup, rebuild, and reignite the passion and dominance that once made Kotoko one of Africa’s most formidable clubs.
