Ghana to Build 50,000-Seat Stadium at Borteyman by 2028

The government has announced plans to construct a 50,000-capacity stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex as part of efforts to make Ghana a leading sports destination. Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams Iddie confirmed that the new stadium will be delivered through a Public-Private Partnership and is expected to be completed before 2028.

The project is part of a larger vision to turn Borteyman into a modern sports city, adding to the world-class facilities already developed there for the 2023 African Games. These include an aquatic center, a multipurpose sports hall, and training pitches. The new stadium will serve as the centerpiece of this transformation, giving Ghana a venue capable of hosting major international tournaments.

According to the minister, the development will also include accommodation facilities to reduce government spending on housing the Black Stars during training camps and tournaments. By partnering with private investors, the government hopes to ease the financial burden while boosting sports tourism and creating new business opportunities.

Once completed, the Borteyman Sports City is expected to attract global attention, positioning Ghana as a preferred destination for sporting events in Africa and beyond.
