Veteran politician and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has promised to provide a sizeable sum of GHC 4 million to help the party organize its next National Delegates Conference in Accra.
Delegates will choose party officials and establish strategic plans for the general elections in 2028 at the conference, which is scheduled for July 19, 2025.
In remarks reported by Joy News and TV3 Ghana, Agyapong, a candidate for the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer position, confirmed the donation.
He underlined that this funding is intended for infrastructure, site arrangements, logistics, and the well-being of delegates—all of which are necessary to organize a smooth and respectable event.
Agyapong, who chaired the parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee, was well-known for his candid communication style and grassroots appeal. He represented Assin North from 2001 to 2013 and Assin Central from 2013 to 2025.
This donation is notable both for its scale and timing. Political analysts suggest it is a strategic move strengthening Agyapong’s influence among delegates ahead of the flagbearer selection process.
The event is a critical platform to shape party leadership and strategy. A contributor to Joy News’ Facebook page captured national attention by reporting the amount labeled “donates GHC 4 million to support NPP National Delegates Conference”
Ken Agyapong made a more general plea to delegates, asking them to select leaders who share the goals of the grassroots movement and the opinions of common Ghanaians.
He cited urgency and reason as key factors in guiding the party to success. The NPP is now prepared to go on with conference preparations, which include deciding on a location, organizing delegate travel and lodging, and putting safety and health procedures into place.
The party in charge of hosting guarantees openness in the use of funds, and post-conference reports are anticipated for operational and logistical costs.
Although GHC 4 million is a substantial contribution, observers point out that leadership choices and delegation decisions ultimately determine the outcome.
Agyapong’s involvement shows his desire to influence the party’s future course as well as his dedication to a well-run congress.
In preparation for the forthcoming internal elections and the larger electoral scene running up to 2028, the NPP’s National Delegates Conference on July 19, 2025, looks poised for a strong display of organizational, political, and financial preparedness.
