Ashantigold FC and Mallam Yahaya Part Ways Ahead of New Season

Ashantigold FC (Bekwai Heroes) and head coach Mallam Yahaya have mutually agreed to part ways just ahead of the 2025/26 Access Bank Division One League season.

Yahaya, who took over from Asare Bediako during the second round of the 2024/25 campaign, leaves the club after reaching a financial settlement. A former Ghana international with 12 caps, Yahaya brought experience, composure, and leadership to the role. His coaching approach was influenced by a distinguished playing career that included time with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and a notable appearance at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Before joining Ashantigold, Yahaya gained coaching experience with several Ghanaian clubs. He led King Faisal Babies in the Ghana Premier League from 2012 to 2013, took charge of New Edubiase United in 2016 in an effort to revive their top-flight fortunes, and served as a stabilizing presence at Elmina Sharks before departing in early 2022. Most recently, he managed Nzema Kotoko and Future Stars, resuming the latter role in late 2024 and further cementing his reputation as a tactically astute and disciplined coach.

Following Yahaya’s departure, Ashantigold is actively searching for a new head coach. The club has shortlisted three candidates—two local and one foreign—as they aim to rebuild stronger and secure promotion to the Premier League. This managerial change underscores the club’s ambition and readiness for a fresh start.

Mallam Yahaya leaves with his head held high, remembered for his calm demeanor on the sidelines and dedication to player development. From his early coaching days to his European playing career and transition into management, his journey in football has been marked by resilience, humility, and passion for the game.
