Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, has claimed that a former National Service Scheme (NSS) CEO bribed a lawmaker to stifle a corruption issue connected to the organization.
During a press conference held in Accra on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine disclosed that money transactions involving private people, vendors, and senior NSS officials had been discovered as a result of investigations.
He said that attempts to conceal fraudulent activity within the plan were connected to these payments.
“We now have evidence of payments made into the accounts of top executives of the National Service Scheme by vendors, private individuals, and staff of the scheme,” he stated.
The Attorney-General further revealed that in November 2024, the NSS CEO and other others reportedly bribed a Ghanaian MP to shield those engaged in the phantom names scandal from the media and to publicly defend them.
“We also have evidence that in November 2024, the CEO of the National Service Scheme and others paid a Ghanaian MP to kill the story in the media and defend them. This is a developing story, and more details will emerge soon,” he added.
